Silestone Kitchen Remodeling: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide

If you’re reading this, you likely have Silestone countertops in your Fort Lauderdale kitchen and something has gone wrong. A cracked slab near the sink, a seam that’s opened up, an edge that chipped when a pot slipped, or a section that’s now dull and etched from years of citrus and salt air. A full Silestone kitchen remodel in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $14,000 to $45,000 installed, depending on the size of the kitchen, the Silestone color line you choose, and whether you’re replacing just the countertops or the cabinets and layout too. We’re Penhallow Remodeling Fort Lauderdale, and we handle Silestone kitchen work from first measurement to final polish, with the price in writing before any demo starts.

Most homeowners call us after living with a failing surface for months, sometimes years. They’ve tried polishing out the dull spots, ignored the hairline crack by the cooktop, or worked around a seam that collects crumbs. By the time we’re on site in neighborhoods like Victoria Park, Rio Vista, or Coral Ridge, the fix usually involves more than a cosmetic patch. The good news: Silestone is a quartz product from Cosentino, and it’s one of the more predictable materials to work with when you know its tolerances. The bad news: Florida humidity, hard water, and daily UV exposure from that big kitchen window will find any shortcut the original installer took.

Which Silestone Models This Applies To

A remodeled kitchen with a waterfall island and wood cabinets

Silestone has been manufactured by Cosentino since 1990, and the Fort Lauderdale market has seen every generation of the product installed. The original Silestone Classic lines, the newer Eternal and Loft series, the high-gloss polished finishes, the suede and volcano matte textures, and most recently the HybriQ+ formulations that use recycled materials. When we come out to measure for a Silestone kitchen remodeling project, the first thing we do is find the fabrication label. Look under the front overhang of your countertop near the sink cabinet, or check the paperwork from the original install. The label will show the color name, the lot number, and sometimes the thickness, which matters more than most homeowners realize.

The compatibility gotcha with Silestone is thickness and overhang support. Most Fort Lauderdale homes built before 2010 have 2cm slabs, often set directly onto the base cabinets with particleboard or plywood shims. Newer installs and island runs frequently use 3cm slabs. If your existing island overhang was built for 2cm material and you want a thicker 3cm Silestone like the Calacatta Gold or Eternal Statuario patterns, the overhang geometry changes and the support brackets may need rebuilding. That’s not a cosmetic concern. A 3cm Silestone island overhang without proper steel support will eventually flex at the seams, and in South Florida’s temperature swings, that flex becomes a crack. We check the cabinet structure and the support brackets before we quote, because the difference between a 2cm and 3cm Silestone replacement changes the labor and the substrate work but not always the material cost as much as people expect.

On the OEM versus aftermarket question: Silestone doesn’t really have an “OEM part” market the way appliances do. The slabs themselves are only sold through authorized Cosentino fabricators and distributors. What you’re really choosing is whether to buy through a fabricator who carries certified Silestone stock or a shop that sources close-match quartz from another brand and calls it Silestone. We install genuine Silestone from authorized Florida distributors. Aftermarket adhesives, seam fillers, and sealing products exist, and some are excellent. We use Cosentino’s recommended adhesives and color-matched polyester seam fillers because the resin chemistry is matched to the slab’s resin content. That matters on a white Silestone like Lyra or Blanco Orion where a generic adhesive can ghost through the stone and show up as a yellow shadow along the seam six months later.

Signs Your Silestone Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing

  • Hairline cracks radiating from the sink cutout or cooktop opening. This is the most common failure we see in Fort Lauderdale kitchens. The original fabricator cut the inside corners too sharp, usually at 90 degrees instead of a radiused curve. Stress concentrates at that point, and every cycle of hot water in the sink and cool air from the A/C works the crack wider. If the crack is spreading toward the edge, the slab’s structural integrity is compromised and it needs replacement, not patching.
  • A seam that’s opening or catching your fingernail. Silestone slabs are joined with color-matched epoxy, but if the substrate beneath the seam wasn’t level within a sixteenth of an inch, the seam will flex and separate over time. You’ll feel it before you see it. In humid Fort Lauderdale weather, the particleboard or MDF substrate that some builders used will have absorbed moisture and swollen, pushing the seam apart from underneath.
  • Chipped edges, especially on the front overhang and around the sink. Silestone is hard, around 7 on the Mohs scale, but an impact from a cast iron pan or a dropped glass casserole can spall the edge. Small chips can sometimes be filled and polished with a color-matched repair kit. A chip that exposes the aggregate underneath and keeps spreading usually means the edge profile itself was too sharp for the traffic it gets.
  • Cloudy, etched, or rough patches that won’t polish out. True quartz like Silestone doesn’t etch from acid the way marble or limestone does, but the resin binders can dull over years of abrasive cleaners. If you have areas near the stove or sink that look permanently hazy, the surface has been worn down past the polish layer. The slab is still usable, but it’s a sign the surface needs a professional re-polish or eventual replacement if the damage is widespread.
  • Staining that won’t lift, often around the faucet base or prep area. Silestone is non-porous, but it can absorb strongly pigmented liquids, especially oils and wine, if the surface has microscopic scratches that break the polish. Fort Lauderdale’s hard water also leaves mineral deposits that build up at the faucet base and etch their way into the surface over years. We can tell you pretty quickly whether a stain is topical or whether it’s gone into the material.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A walk-in pantry with wood shelving

A Silestone kitchen remodeling project in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $14,000 to $45,000, and the range is driven by a few specific things. Countertop-only replacement, where the cabinets stay and we remove the old top, template, fabricate, and install a new Silestone surface, usually lands between $2,000 and $6,500. That’s the kind of job where someone’s existing kitchen layout works fine but the surfaces have failed. When you get into the $14,000-plus range, you’re looking at new cabinetry, possibly a new island configuration, backsplash work, plumbing adjustments for the sink and faucet, and electrical updates for under-cabinet lighting or relocated appliances.

We write the number down before anything is torn out, and that number is the number on the invoice. No change orders for things we should have caught in the measurement. No surprises after the walls are open. For Silestone kitchen work we quote by the project, not by the hour, and the quote includes demolition, debris hauling, substrate prep, slab fabrication, installation, plumbing reconnection, and a written guarantee on the workmanship. The material itself carries Cosentino’s warranty separately, and we handle any warranty claim with the distributor if a slab defect shows up after install. If something on our side fails within a year, we come back and fix it under the 365-Day Done Right Promise, on paper, at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things a homeowner can safely check on a Silestone surface. You can confirm the thickness with a tape measure at the overhang or under the sink rim. You can document the crack length and location with photos over a couple of weeks to see if it’s spreading. You can test whether that cloudy patch is surface residue or actual wear by cleaning it with a pH-neutral stone cleaner and a white Scotch-Brite pad, though you should never use anything more abrasive than that on polished Silestone. If the haze is gone after cleaning, it was build-up. If it’s still there, the polish layer is gone.

What you should not do is attempt to repair a cracked slab with a DIY epoxy kit from the hardware store, unless you’re okay with the result being visible every time you set a plate down. Seam repair and crack filling on Silestone require color-matching to the specific lot, precision grinding, and a dust-controlled environment. Quartz dust is silica, and breathing it during grinding is a genuine health hazard. We use wet-fabrication methods and proper extraction. Changing a faucet on a Silestone top isn’t the same as on laminate, because over-tightening the mounting nut or dropping a wrench can crack the stone around the cutout, and that crack isn’t repairable, it’s a slab replacement. For anything beyond cleaning and documenting, call us at (754) 551-2922 and we’ll get eyes on it. Trevor Nash has written the scope for enough Silestone jobs in Fort Lauderdale to tell you within the first visit whether you’re looking at a repair or a full kitchen remodel, and he’ll put that assessment in writing.

Silestone Kitchen Remodeling Cost in Fort Lauderdale: Key Takeaways

  • Countertop-only Silestone replacement: $2,000 to $6,500 installed.
  • Full Silestone kitchen remodel with cabinetry, island, and backsplash: $14,000 to $45,000.
  • Silestone slab thickness (2cm vs 3cm) affects overhang support requirements and structural longevity.
  • Genuine Silestone comes through authorized Cosentino fabricators; we source from Florida distributors, not look-alike quartz.
  • Quartz dust from grinding is a silica exposure hazard; crack and seam repairs are professional work, not a weekend project.
  • We also work with KraftMaid, Cambria, and Kohler products in the same scope when a Silestone kitchen remodel touches cabinets, other surfaces, or fixtures.
