Sterling Fence Installation: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
Sterling fence installation in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $3,500 to $9,000 installed, depending on linear footage, fence height, and whether we’re replacing panels, posts, or a full run. We stock Sterling-compatible parts on our trucks and can usually complete a standard repair or replacement within a day or two of your call. Most homeowners find us the morning after a tropical storm, standing in the yard looking at a post that’s leaning at a forty-five degree angle with the concrete footing cracked clean through.

What usually happened: the original installer set posts in shallow footings, used standard steel fasteners instead of stainless, or skipped the concrete collar that keeps water from pooling at the post base. South Florida soil is sandy and wet, and between the humidity, the salt air, and the afternoon thunderstorms, a fence part that would last twenty years in Ohio gives out in eight here. We see it on fences from Las Olas to Victoria Park to the neighborhoods off Federal Highway.
Which Sterling Models This Applies To

Sterling’s fence line breaks into three main families: the Grand Estate series (6-foot privacy panels with routed tops), the Classic Picket series (4-foot and 5-foot spaced pickets), and the Estate Rail series (post-and-rail with optional mesh). Each series uses different post dimensions, which is the single biggest compatibility gotcha we run into. A Grand Estate post is a full 4×4 vinyl sleeve over a structural insert, while the Classic Picket line uses a smaller 3.5-inch profile. You cannot swap panels between series.
The quickest way to identify your fence: look for a small rectangular sticker on the inside of a post cap or on the bottom rail. If the sticker is gone (sun, pressure washing, or age removes most of them), measure the post width. Grand Estate runs a true 4 inches. Classic Picket runs 3.5. Estate Rail uses a 5-inch corner post. We keep OEM Sterling replacement panels in the Grand Estate and Classic Picket lines on the truck, and for discontinued colors we source direct from Sterling’s current distributor network with a two-to-three day lead time. Aftermarket equivalents exist for standard white and tan panels, but we’ll always tell you before quoting them, because the UV stabilizer package in OEM Sterling vinyl holds color noticeably longer in South Florida sun.

Signs Your Sterling Fence Installation Is Failing
- Leaning posts with cracked concrete at the base. The original footing was too shallow (under 18 inches) or too narrow. In Fort Lauderdale’s sandy soil, a 24-inch-deep footing with a concrete collar is the minimum that holds.
- Panels that rattle or bow in the wind. The bottom rail lost its connection to the post, usually because the installer used drywall screws instead of stainless fence screws. Salt air eats standard fasteners within two years.
- White chalk residue on the surface. This is vinyl oxidation accelerating. It means the panel was either an aftermarket part with a weak UV package or the panel is near end of life.
- Gaps at the panel-to-post seam. Vinyl expands and contracts with heat. If the installer butted the panel tight against the post with no expansion room, the Florida sun blows the seam apart.
- Post caps cracked or missing. Water gets inside the post, sits at the bottom, and rots the structural insert from the inside out. You won’t see the damage until the post folds.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For a standard Fort Lauderdale yard, a Sterling fence installation or full replacement runs $3,500 to $9,000. Ten to fifteen panels with matching posts, gates, and hardware sits around $5,500. What drives the number up or down: linear footage, fence height (4-foot picket is cheaper than 6-foot privacy), gate count and width, whether existing footings can be reused, and whether we’re pulling a permit. Fort Lauderdale requires a permit for any fence over 4 feet, and we handle that paperwork for you.
Every Sterling replacement quote includes: removal and haul-away of the failed parts, new concrete footings where posts are replaced, stainless steel fasteners throughout, and a written line-item price before we touch anything. That written price is the number on the invoice. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to the full installation: if a post shifts, a panel separates, or a gate sags inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. No service call fee, no re-inspection fee.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely inspect your own fence: grab each post and give it a firm shake, look for rust-colored streaks at screw heads, and check that post caps are seated. These are visual checks, not repairs. What goes wrong with DIY on Sterling fences is usually the footing. Digging out a failed post, setting a new one in wet sandy soil, and getting the concrete collar right is a two-person job with a concrete mixer. Get the depth wrong by four inches and you’re doing it again in two years.
The other issue is matching the exact panel profile and color. Standard white is easy. Sterling’s tan and clay colors from a run five years ago aren’t on the shelf at any supply house. We have the distribution channels to match what’s actually in your yard, not just what the big box store happens to stock. If you want to try the repair yourself, I’ll tell you what you need. Trevor Nash here: tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs, then we’ll get it done. If it turns out to be more than you want to handle, call (754) 551-2922 and we’ll bring the right panels and stainless fasteners the first time.
FAQs

A properly installed Sterling fence in Fort Lauderdale should last 20 to 25 years on the vinyl panels, with post footings being the first point of failure around year 12 to 15. Our stainless fastener upgrade and deep footings are what stretch that lifespan, since the vinyl itself holds up well to Florida sun when it’s OEM Sterling material. Call (754) 551-2922 for a free estimate on a replacement that’s set to last.
Yes, if the vinyl post sleeve is still intact and the failure is in the footing. We can excavate the old base, straighten the post, and pour a new 24-inch footing with a concrete collar. If the post itself is cracked or the internal insert is rotted, replacement is cheaper than repair. Call (754) 551-2922 and we’ll tell you which one you have.
A standard residential Sterling fence replacement in Fort Lauderdale takes one to three days once materials are on site, including removing the old fence and hauling it away. Special-order colors add a few days for delivery. Call (754) 551-2922 for a written timeline with your quote.
We stock OEM Sterling panels in the Grand Estate and Classic Picket series in standard white and tan on our trucks, plus matching posts, caps, and stainless hardware. Discontinued colors and the Estate Rail series we order direct with a two-to-three day lead. Either way, you won’t be paying retail markup on parts you sourced blind. Call (754) 551-2922 and we’ll check stock while you’re on the phone.
