Techo-Bloc Windows & Doors: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
Techo-Bloc windows and doors aren’t a product line Techo-Bloc manufactures directly. Techo-Bloc makes hardscape materials – pavers, walls, steps, and caps. If you have a Techo-Bloc product on your Fort Lauderdale property and a window or door that’s failing, what you likely need is a window or door that works with your Techo-Bloc installation – a paver patio threshold, a retaining wall adjacent to a door, or a window well framed by Techo-Bloc wall units. We handle that exact situation: replacing windows and doors that have to mate correctly with existing Techo-Bloc hardscape. Most Fort Lauderdale window replacements run $4,500 – $15,000, and door work typically lands between $800 and $3,000 installed depending on size, material, and how much the surrounding Techo-Bloc work needs to be tied in. If you’re reading this, odds are you’ve noticed a door sticking against settled pavers, water tracking in at a threshold, or a window that no longer opens cleanly because the surrounding hardscape has shifted.

Which Techo-Bloc Installations This Applies To

This covers any window or door that sits adjacent to, above, or integrated with Techo-Bloc products. In Fort Lauderdale, that’s most often:
- Techo-Bloc paver patios (Blu 60, Borealis, Victorien, and Hexa series are the ones we see most) where the patio meets a sliding glass door or French door threshold.
- Techo-Bloc retaining walls (Mini-Creta, Rafale, Semma, or Borealis wall) that run alongside basement-level windows or garden-level doors.
- Techo-Bloc steps and caps that frame a front entry door or a garage side door.
The key compatibility gotcha: Techo-Bloc pavers are thicker than standard concrete pavers – most run 60mm to 80mm, with some commercial lines at 100mm. When a previous installer set a door threshold assuming a thinner paver bed, you get a threshold that sits too low, and water, insects, and humidity find their way in. On the window side, walls built against Techo-Bloc retaining units often have drainage channels that, if blocked, push water toward the window frame. We identify the right fix by measuring the paver height against the sill or threshold, checking the slope of the Techo-Bloc surface (Fort Lauderdale code requires positive drainage away from structures – typically 1/4 inch per foot), and confirming the series from any remaining paver markings or by matching dimensions to Techo-Bloc’s current catalog. As for parts: there is no “OEM Techo-Bloc window.” Techo-Bloc doesn’t make windows or doors. The window or door itself is almost always a separate brand – Therma-Tru for doors, various manufacturers for windows – and the “part” that fails is the interface. We stock threshold pans, flashing, sill extenders, and shims on the truck specifically for hardscape-adjacent work, and we source doors and windows from Therma-Tru and other recognized brands we trust to hold up in South Florida humidity.
One honest note: Penhallow Remodeling Fort Lauderdale is an independent contractor. We’re not affiliated with Techo-Bloc, and we don’t sell Techo-Bloc products directly – we work with existing Techo-Bloc installations and make sure the windows and doors around them are right.

Signs Your Techo-Bloc-Adjacent Window or Door Is Failing
- Water pooling at the threshold after rain. This is the most common Fort Lauderdale symptom. It usually means the Techo-Bloc pavers settled over time (South Florida’s sandy soil and seasonal saturation cause movement), and the threshold no longer sits above the drainage plane. The paver surface has dropped relative to the door, so water runs toward the house instead of away from it.
- A door that sticks or scrapes the paver surface. Settlement again, almost always. Techo-Bloc pavers on a properly compacted base move very little, but in Fort Lauderdale, builders frequently cut corners on base compaction near foundations. The pavers settle a quarter inch, and suddenly the door drags across the top surface.
- Window condensation between the panes. That’s a failed insulated glass unit – the seal between the two panes has broken. It’s not related to the Techo-Bloc hardscape directly, but if the window sits in a wall backed by a Techo-Bloc retaining unit that traps moisture, frame rot accelerates seal failure. You see it faster here than in drier climates because Fort Lauderdale’s humidity pushes moisture into any micro-gap in the frame.
- Visible daylight or drafts around the door frame. When Techo-Bloc steps or walls shift even slightly, the door frame can rack. The frame itself may not be damaged yet, but the jamb pulls away from the rough opening, and you’ll feel it most in August when the AC is running.
- Rust or corrosion at the bottom rail of a metal door. Salt air does this faster in Fort Lauderdale than almost anywhere else in Florida. If the threshold isn’t keeping water off the door bottom, the rail rusts from the underside up. By the time you see bubbling paint, the steel is already compromised.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Lauderdale, expect to pay $4,500 – $15,000 for a full window replacement project and $800 – $3,000 for a door, installed. What drives the range:
- The condition of the Techo-Bloc base below the threshold. If we have to pull pavers, re-compact the base, and reset them, that adds $500 – $1,500 to the job. It’s also the part that makes the repair last.
- Door or window material. Fiberglass and impact-rated doors cost more than steel or basic wood. Impact windows (a real consideration in Fort Lauderdale building code, and worth every dollar) run higher than standard single-pane replacements.
- How much flashing and water management work is needed. The seal between the hardscape, the rough opening, and the frame is where most previous installs fail. We build that detail correctly, and it’s included in the written price.
Every quote is a written, line-item number before any work starts. You’ll know the cost of the door, the threshold work, the Techo-Bloc reset if needed, and the flashing. No change orders unless you ask for something different. And every job carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if the new door sticks, leaks, or the window fails within a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. The written price also means the number on day one is the number on the invoice – not a range that creeps.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can absolutely check a few things yourself: run a hose along the Techo-Bloc surface and watch where the water goes (it should run away from the threshold); check if the door scrapes the pavers only in one corner (a settlement clue); look for daylight at the weatherstripping. But replacing a door or window that’s integrated with Techo-Bloc hardscape isn’t a weekend job. If you pull a door frame and find the rough opening is rotted or out of square because the retaining wall shifted, you’re now rebuilding structure, not swapping a door. Same with impact windows: a DIY-installed impact window that’s not anchored to the rough opening per Miami-Dade or Broward code won’t perform when a storm hits, and your insurance company will want permits and inspections anyway. We’re background-checked, uniformed, and we show up with a written scope and a real number. Call (754) 551-2922 if you’re not sure whether it’s a $200 weatherstripping fix or a $6,000 threshold rebuild. We’ll tell you straight.
FAQs

A properly installed fiberglass or impact-rated door should run 20 – 30 years in Fort Lauderdale, and a good window 15 – 25 years. What shortens that life fastest here is water at the threshold and salt air on metal components. The window or door itself rarely wears out – the interface between the hardscape and the frame is what fails first. Call (754) 551-2922 and we’ll inspect yours at no cost.
Often, yes. If the Techo-Bloc pavers have settled and the door frame is still square, we can pull the pavers, re-compact the base, reset them at the correct height, and install a new threshold pan. That typically runs $500 – $1,500 in Fort Lauderdale. If the door slab itself is warped or the frame is rotted, replacement is the honest answer. We’ll give you a written price either way.
A straightforward door swap with Techo-Bloc threshold work takes one to two days on site. A full window replacement with impact glass can run two to five days depending on how many openings. We give you a real arrival window and we keep to it – it’s part of the Kingswell standard we’ve operated under since 2004.
We stock the materials that make the repair work: threshold pans, sill flashing, shims, drainage fabric, and base aggregate for resetting settled pavers. Techo-Bloc pavers themselves are series-specific and we order them to match your existing color and texture, which usually takes a few days in Fort Lauderdale. The window or door unit is ordered to your measurements. Call (754) 551-2922 for an exact quote – estimates are free.
Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs – then we’ll get it done. Call (754) 551-2922 to schedule your free estimate, and we’ll put the price in writing before a single paver is lifted.
