Boxabl Windows & Doors: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
We stock and install Boxabl-compatible windows and doors in Fort Lauderdale, with most replacements running $800 – $3,200 installed depending on the unit size and whether you need a like-for-like swap or a full retrofit. A failed window or door on a Boxabl usually shows up as a unit that won’t seal, a slider that drags, or condensation building between panes after a heavy South Florida rain. You’ll want it addressed quickly because a window that won’t close tight in this humidity invites mold into the wall cavity within weeks, not months.

Penhallow Remodeling Fort Lauderdale is an independent service provider, not affiliated with Boxabl. We just happen to work on a lot of these units because Fort Lauderdale has become a real pocket of Boxabl ownership, and the stock windows and doors that ship with them have some predictable failure points in coastal climates.
Which Boxabl Models This Applies To

Boxabl’s Casita and accessory dwelling unit lines ship with standardized window and door cutouts, but there’s a compatibility gotcha most owners don’t learn until they’re standing in front of the wrong part: early production runs used a narrower frame channel than later units. The difference is only about 3/8 of an inch in the rough opening tolerance, but it’s enough that a window ordered for a 2021 Casita may not seat properly in a 2023 model without a shim kit and new flashing tape. We check the frame channel width before anything gets ordered.
To identify your unit, look for the laser-etched code on the bottom rail of the window frame or the hinge side of the door jamb. It’s a string of letters and numbers, usually starting with “BX” followed by a four-digit build number. Take a photo of it and bring it to the phone call. If the sticker is gone (sun and salt air eat them), we measure the rough opening and the frame channel on site. On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question, Boxabl windows are a standard aluminum-frame slider that several trade manufacturers supply, so a quality aftermarket equivalent often outperforms the original in coastal salt exposure. We’ll walk you through that choice in plain terms rather than push whatever costs more.

Signs Your Boxabl Windows & Doors Is Failing
- Condensation between the panes. The insulated glass unit, or IGU, has lost its seal. In Fort Lauderdale’s humidity, a failed seal fogs up within a day of the first temperature swing. The glass has to be replaced as a unit; you can’t dry it out.
- The slider drags or catches mid-track. The aluminum track on OEM Boxabl sliders is soft, and fine beach sand works its way into the roller channel. Once the roller bearings grind flat, the door starts shaving metal off the track, which makes the problem worse.
- You can see daylight around the frame. The original install on many Casitas relied on a thin butyl tape that breaks down after two or three Fort Lauderdale summers. When the seal goes, water follows. We’ve opened walls in Victoria Park and found the stud pack already wicking moisture.
- The lock no longer catches the strike plate. Aluminum frames flex with heat. Repeated flexing throws the alignment off by a millimeter or two, which is all it takes for a deadbolt to stop engaging. It’s not just annoying; it means the door isn’t actually closed.
- Rust blooms at the frame corners. Salt air is relentless. The factory powder coat on OEM Boxabl frames is thin at the welded corners, and once pinholes open, the aluminum corrodes underneath and swells the joint.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Lauderdale, a single Boxabl-compatible window replacement typically runs $800 – $1,600 installed. A full sliding glass door runs $1,800 – $3,200 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the door slab alone or pulling the entire frame and re-flashing the opening. If the surrounding wall shows water damage, expect finish carpentry and drywall repair to add $400 – $900.
Every quote is written, not verbal. You’ll see the part number (or the aftermarket equivalent and its warranty), the labor to remove and reset, the flashing and sealant materials, and the haul-away. That written number is the number on the invoice, because that’s how Penhallow Remodeling has operated since joining the Kingswell family of companies, which has run on The Kingswell Way since 2004: say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, and leave the place cleaner than we found it.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: wipe the track clean of sand with a dry brush, make sure the weep holes at the bottom of the frame aren’t clogged, and confirm whether the lock misalignment is from a shifted strike plate rather than a warped frame. If those checks don’t reveal an easy fix, stop there. Pulling a Boxabl window or door is not a casual Saturday project. You’re working with a sealed, shimmed opening that keeps water out of an aluminum-and-foam wall system, and the moment you break the factory seal, you own any water that finds its way in.
We’ve been called to fix enough owner-removal attempts near Las Olas and Sailboat Bend to say this plainly: the savings disappear the first time a slider drops on a tile floor or a window pops its frame screws mid-removal. Trevor Nash grew up in Los Angeles and learned the trade at LA Trade-Tech before running crews across South Florida for the better part of two decades, and his standing rule is that remove-and-reset work on any manufactured housing unit gets done in under two hours or we tell you why it won’t be before the clock starts. If the repair can wait a day, call (754) 551-2922 and tell us the symptom. We’ll tell you the cost.
FAQs

The factory units on a Boxabl typically last 8 – 12 years in Fort Lauderdale’s salt air and sun before the IGUs start failing or the frames corrode at the corners. We see earlier failures on units that face east and take the morning sun plus the ocean breeze. Call (754) 551-2922 and we’ll tell you whether yours is at end of life or has years left.
A fogged window means the insulated glass seal has failed, and the glass panel gets replaced rather than repaired, which usually costs $350 – $700 per pane in Fort Lauderdale. If the frame is still sound, that’s the cheaper fix. We stock the common Casita IGU sizes, so the swap is usually one visit.
Most single-unit replacements take two to three hours on site, once the part is in hand. A full slider door with frame removal and re-flashing runs four to five hours. We give you a written arrival window before we start, not after.
We stock the most common Boxabl Casita window sizes, slider door slabs, roller assemblies, and latch hardware in our Fort Lauderdale service area, and we can source the rest within three to five business days. We also keep parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone work, but this page’s focus is Boxabl windows and doors. Call (754) 551-2922 and we’ll check stock while you’re on the phone.
