Mr-Glass Windows & Doors: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
Most Mr-Glass window and door repairs in Fort Lauderdale run between $400 and $2,500 installed, with full replacements typically landing in the $4,500 to $15,000 range depending on size, series, and how much salt air the frame has absorbed over the years. We stock common Mr-Glass-compatible rollers, balances, weatherstripping, and hardware on our trucks, so a single-visit fix is the norm rather than the exception. The way most homeowners discover a failing part: a slider that suddenly drags, a sash that drops an inch when you unlock it, or a door that won’t seal against the afternoon humidity anymore.

Which Mr-Glass Models This Applies To
Mr-Glass has sold several sliding door and window lines across South Florida over the past two decades, and the hardware is not always interchangeable between them. The older builders-grade aluminum sliders (common in Fort Lauderdale homes built before 2005) use a narrower roller housing than the newer impact-rated series, which means ordering a part by memory usually gets you the wrong fit. The quickest way to identify what you have is to look at the corner of the glass unit or the inside track for an etched label. If the label has worn away, measure the roller housing width in millimeters. That number matters more than the door’s overall width. For Mr-Glass specifically, we have seen the largest compatibility headache on the impact-series casement windows: the crank mechanism changed in 2016, and the older gear set will not mesh with the post-2016 window even though both are labeled “Mr-Glass.” OEM parts are worth it on anything involving the frame or the glass seal itself. For rollers, balances, and handles, a quality aftermarket equivalent from Caldwell or Prime-Line often lasts just as long and costs 30 to 40 percent less. We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with Mr-Glass, and we will tell you honestly when the aftermarket part is the better buy.

Signs Your Mr-Glass Windows & Doors Is Failing
- The door starts needing a shoulder. When rollers wear flat on one side, the door drops and the leading edge catches on the track. This is usually accompanied by visible metal dust in the bottom channel, which means the roller bearing has already failed and the wheel is grinding against the housing.
- The window won’t stay open. On a double-hung, this is almost always a failed balance spring. On a casement, it is a stripped crank gear. Either way, forcing it makes the problem worse and can bend the linkage arms beyond repair.
- You can feel daylight through the seam. Worn weatherstripping compresses unevenly in Florida humidity, especially after a few wet seasons. Once the wool pile seal goes flat, air and water move in freely, and your AC bill climbs with it.
- The latch no longer catches. Salt air is brutal on zinc and aluminum hardware. Corrosion builds inside the latch body until the spring loses tension, and after that the lock just spins or hangs loose in the bore.
- The unit is foggy inside the glass. This is a failed insulated glass seal. The fix is replacing the glass unit itself, not the frame, which keeps the repair cost far below a full window replacement.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

For Fort Lauderdale homeowners, here is what we typically see in 2026, installed, including parts and labor:
- Sliding door roller replacement: $180 – $450 per door
- Window balance replacement: $120 – $320 per window
- Casement crank and gear replacement: $160 – $400 per window
- Weatherstripping or wool pile replacement: $150 – $500 per unit
- Insulated glass unit replacement: $400 – $1,200 per unit
- Full window replacement: $4,500 – $15,000 depending on count and impact rating
The biggest cost drivers are the glass unit size, whether the frame is aluminum or vinyl, and whether we need to remove stucco or trim to access the track. Every repair we quote comes with a written price before we begin, the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing, and a free return visit if the fix fails inside the guarantee period. We do not open walls without a number already on paper.
DIY or Call Us?
Roller and balance work looks simple on a video, but the loaded tension in a window balance or a high-mounted sliding door hinge is enough to break a finger or crack the glass if it releases wrong. A safer owner-level check: clean the bottom track with a dry brush, tighten any visible handle screws, and note whether the door sits level in its frame. If it sits low on one end, the roller is done and the door needs to be lifted out, which is a two-person job with the right lifting wedge and no shortage of pinched-finger risk. Trevor Nash has pulled hundreds of these units apart across Fort Lauderdale, and the number of doors we rescue where a previous owner tried a hardware-store roller kit and stripped the adjusting screw makes the case for us. Call (754) 551-2922 and we will tell you over the phone whether it is worth a visit.
FAQs

Coastal salt air typically cuts hardware life to 8 to 12 years for rollers and balances and 5 to 8 years for weatherstripping, which is noticeably shorter than inland installations. If your unit is older than that and sticking, the fix is usually a replacement rather than a cleaning. Call (754) 551-2922 and we’ll match the part to your exact unit.
Most failures, including rollers, balances, latches, and weatherstripping, are repairable without touching the glass or the frame. Only a failed insulated glass seal requires replacing the glass unit itself, which is still far cheaper than a full window replacement. We will tell you which one you have after one look.
A roller or balance replacement usually takes 60 to 90 minutes per unit once the part is in hand, and since we carry common Mr-Glass hardware on the truck, we often finish in a single visit. Glass unit replacements take a bit longer because the unit is ordered to size after we measure.
We keep the most common Mr-Glass roller sizes, balance springs, and weatherstripping profiles stocked on our trucks for the Fort Lauderdale market. Less common hardware, like the pre-2016 casement cranks or custom-sized glass units, we order from local distributors and typically have in hand within a few business days.
