Oldcastle Driveway & Pavers: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
If you have a cracked Oldcastle paver, a sinking section of driveway, or faded pavers that are starting to look more gray than the color you picked out, we stock and install Oldcastle-compatible driveway and paver systems across Fort Lauderdale, with most paver driveway installations running $7,000 – $18,000 depending on square footage, base prep, and paver line. Most Fort Lauderdale homeowners first notice a problem after a heavy summer downpour: water pools where it used to drain, a paver rocks underfoot, or a section of the driveway has settled about half an inch lower than the rest. That settling is rarely the paver itself failing. It’s almost always what’s underneath.

We’re Penhallow Remodeling Fort Lauderdale, an independent contractor serving Fort Lauderdale and nearby areas. We’re not affiliated with Oldcastle, but we’ve worked with their paver lines long enough to know which ones hold up in South Florida’s heat-and-rain cycle and which ones need a little more care during install.
Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle’s paver line shows up in Fort Lauderdale under a few common names: Belgard (Oldcastle’s residential brand), as well as older Oldcastle APG lines that predate the Belgard rebrand. If your pavers were installed before 2010, there’s a good chance they’re an original Oldcastle product rather than a Belgard-labeled one, even though the manufacturing lineage is the same.
The compatibility gotcha we see most in Fort Lauderdale: thickness matters more than color. Driveway pavers need to be at least 60mm thick (about 2 3/8 inches) to handle vehicle weight. Patio and walkway pavers are often 40mm or 50mm. If a previous contractor used a thinner patio paver on a driveway, the pavers crack along the edges first, usually near the street apron where the car’s weight transfers. Matching an existing paver means measuring both the face dimensions (common sizes are 4×8, 6×9, and 8×8) and the thickness. Color matters for appearance, but getting the thickness wrong means you’ll be replacing the same section again in two years.
For most Oldcastle and Belgard lines, OEM replacement pavers are still manufactured, but aftermarket equivalents from other concrete paver plants in South Florida can match closely at a lower per-paver cost. The tradeoff is color consistency: OEM pavers match your existing color lot more predictably. We’ll give you both prices in writing before any work starts.

Signs Your Oldcastle Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Pavers rock or wobble underfoot. This means the bedding sand beneath has washed out, usually because the edge restraint failed or the base wasn’t compacted properly. In Fort Lauderdale’s rainy season, this gets worse fast.
- Water pools in low spots after rain. A properly pitched paver driveway should shed water quickly. Pooling means the base has settled unevenly, often because the original install skipped proper base compaction or used too much sand.
- Cracks running across multiple pavers in a line. A single cracked paver is a material defect. A crack that runs straight across five or six pavers in a row signals a structural problem underneath, usually a soft spot in the base or a tree root.
- Edges of the driveway are spreading or dropping. The edge restraint (typically plastic or aluminum) has failed or was never installed. Pavers start drifting outward, leaving gaps at the border.
- Color has faded to a chalky, whitish surface. UV exposure in South Florida is brutal on unsealed concrete pavers. It’s cosmetic, but the sealer also protects against staining and moisture intrusion, so a faded surface means the paver is less protected than it once was.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Fort Lauderdale, paver driveway installation runs $7,000 – $18,000 for a typical two-car driveway. A smaller repair, like pulling and re-setting a 10×10 section that has settled, usually falls between $800 and $2,500 depending on how much base work is needed underneath. A full driveway replacement, including removing the old pavers and hauling away debris, starts around $5,000 and goes up to $14,000.
What drives the number: square footage, whether the existing base can be reused (often it can’t, and that’s the honest truth), paver style, and whether you’re adding a border or inlay pattern. Every quote we write is a fixed number, not a range. The price on day one is the price on the invoice. Every paver job carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing: if it settles, shifts, or fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself. Walk the driveway after a rain and mark every low spot with chalk. Look at the perimeter and see if the edge restraint is visible or buried. Wiggle a loose paver and look at what’s underneath, sand or bare dirt. That tells you a lot about how the original install was done.
What we don’t recommend: pulling and re-setting pavers yourself unless you’re doing a small, flat patio section. Driveway pavers are heavy, the base underneath needs proper compaction, and getting the pitch wrong means water drains toward your garage instead of away from it. In Fort Lauderdale, where a summer storm can drop two inches of rain in an hour, pitch is not a detail. If you’re unsure whether your issue is cosmetic or structural, call (754) 551-2922 and we’ll tell you straight what you’re looking at, no charge for the conversation.
FAQs

A properly installed Oldcastle or Belgard paver driveway lasts 20 to 30 years in Fort Lauderdale’s climate. The pavers themselves rarely fail; what shortens lifespan is base failure, poor drainage, or roots from nearby oak and ficus trees. If the base was done right, you’ll replace a few cracked pavers over the decades, not the whole driveway. Call (754) 551-2922 and we can tell you whether your base is still sound.
Yes, in most cases. A settled or cracked section can be pulled, the base re-leveled and compacted, and the pavers re-set or replaced. Matching color on older pavers is the honest challenge, since UV changes the surface over time. We’ll show you the closest match before we start, not after. Estimates are free.
A small section repair takes one day. A full paver driveway replacement in Fort Lauderdale typically takes three to five working days, including demolition of the old surface, base prep, paver install, and final compaction and sanding. You’ll get a written start date and arrival window before work begins.
We source Oldcastle and Belgard pavers directly for every job, along with compatible aftermarket equivalents when they make sense. You never need to order materials yourself. We also stock parts and materials for KraftMaid cabinetry, Cambria quartz, and Silestone countertops on the remodeling side of our work. Call (754) 551-2922 for a free estimate on your paver project.
