Therma-Tru Driveway & Pavers: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
We install Therma-Tru entry systems for Fort Lauderdale homes, and while Therma-Tru builds doors, their factory door sills, threshold caps, and integrated brickmould details often tie into concrete pavers, paver walkways, and driveway approaches right at the front entry. A Therma-Tru door bottom that leaks onto a paver landing is usually a sill pan or threshold cap problem, not a slab problem. Installed cost to address the entry and surrounding paver work runs $250 – $700 for sealing and $3,500 – $18,000 when the pavers themselves need replacing. Most homeowners only notice it after a hard south Florida rain, when water pools at the door and the paver edges start to sink.

One thing to be clear about: Penhallow Remodeling Fort Lauderdale is an independent contractor. We are not affiliated with Therma-Tru, and we don’t claim to be. We install their products, match compatible components, and stand behind our work with the 365-Day Done Right Promise.
Which Therma-Tru Models This Applies To

Therma-Tru’s entry door lines share a common threshold architecture. Whether you’re working with a Classic-Craft, Fiber-Classic, or Smooth-Star door, the sill sits in an aluminum or composite shoe that must shed water outward and away from the threshold. In Fort Lauderdale, where afternoon storms can drop an inch of rain in twenty minutes, that water path matters more than it does in most markets. The part that typically fails first at the paving connection is not the door itself. It’s the threshold cap screw holes stripping, the sill pan underneath, or the concrete bed the pavers sit on eroding from repeated water hits.
If you’re matching parts, pull the door label off the hinge edge. It will give you the series name, the door size, and a manufacturing code. The threshold cap width is the other number that matters: Therma-Tru caps run from 4-9/16 inches up to 7-1/2 inches depending on the sill. Measure the visible aluminum cap before ordering anything. OEM Therma-Tru parts fit exactly but cost more and sometimes take a week to arrive. Quality aftermarket threshold caps in the right width install fine and carry their own warranty. For the paver side, we source Belgard and Unilock pavers, which hold up better in a salt-air climate than big-box options that fade and spall within a few years.

Signs Your Therma-Tru Driveway & Pavers Is Failing
- Water pooling at the door after rain. The threshold cap is not shedding water outward, or the pavers have settled and now slope toward the house instead of away. Either way, the water is attacking the door frame and the paver base.
- Sinking pavers or a visible low spot at the landing. The sand or crushed concrete base under the pavers is washing out. In Fort Lauderdale, that base typically grades out with 4-6 inches of compacted fill; less than that and sinking shows up within two seasons.
- Gaps opening between the threshold and the first paver course. The paver edge restraint is failing, or the sill settled. This gap catches debris and channels water under the threshold, which is worse than it looks.
- Pavers that sound hollow or shift when stepped on. The interlock is gone. Once pavers move independently, the surface starts breaking down and the door landing gets uneven, a trip hazard at the front entry.
- White crust or efflorescence on the paver faces near the door. Salt, hard water, or threshold runoff is wicking through the pavers. It’s cosmetic at first, but it tells you moisture is moving through places it should not be.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the honest pricing picture for Fort Lauderdale. Driveway sealing runs $250 – $700 depending on square footage and whether we’re doing a color-enhancing sealer or a matte finish. Full paver driveway installation runs $7,000 – $18,000, with concrete driveway installation at $4,500 – $12,000. If we’re replacing just the entry landing and matching existing pavers, most jobs fall in the $3,500 – $11,000 paver patio installation range. The number moves based on access, base repair, drainage correction, and whether the Therma-Tru threshold needs addressing at the same time.
Every quote from us is written before work starts. That’s a Kingswell standard that’s been in place since 2004, and it means the number you see is the number you pay. Each job includes the written price, a defined arrival window, background-checked uniformed technicians on site, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. Free second visit. No re-inspection fee.
Trevor Nash has been running crews across South Florida long enough to know that a low-ball verbal number on a Fort Lauderdale paver job is a lie closing in on demo day. He writes the number down.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the slope of your pavers with a four-foot level, clear out any debris at the threshold, and watch where the water goes during the next storm. Those observations help any contractor give you a sharper quote. What you should not do is pull the Therma-Tru threshold cap and start replacing it yourself if you’re not sure about the sill pan underneath. A wrong slope there, or a pan that has been caulked closed, will trap water at the exact point where it rots the subfloor. Same goes for lifting settled pavers and adding sand: without compacting the base properly, you’ll be doing it again by the next rainy season.
If the job is beyond inspection, call us at (754) 551-2922. We’ll come out, tell you plainly what’s failing and what it costs, and put it in writing. Tell me what you need, I’ll tell you what it costs – then we’ll get it done.
FAQs

In South Florida’s heat and storms, a properly installed paver landing should hold its grade for 10-15 years before the base needs rework, and a Therma-Tru threshold cap should last 5-10 years before the finish breaks down. Sun exposure, salt air near the coast, and drainage will shorten or extend those numbers. Call (754) 551-2922 and we’ll evaluate yours free.
Yes, if the pavers themselves are not cracked through and the base failure is localized to a few square feet, we can pull the affected area, recompact the base, and relay the same pavers. If the base is washed out across the whole landing, replacement makes better long-term sense. The written quote tells you which one you’re actually looking at.
Most entry landings go down in one or two days; a full driveway replacement typically runs three to five days depending on base repair, drainage corrections, and any threshold work at the door. We give you a defined arrival window up front, and the crew cleans the site before they leave.
We keep common Therma-Tru threshold cap sizes and sill pan materials on the truck, and we source pavers from Belgard and Unilock through local South Florida suppliers. OEM Therma-Tru components for less common sill widths are ordered from our trade suppliers and usually arrive within a week. We also handle parts for KraftMaid, Cambria, and Silestone on remodel jobs, but the Therma-Tru entry is its own specialty.
