Tuff Shed Kitchen Remodeling: The Fort Lauderdale Owner’s Guide
Kitchen remodeling for a Tuff Shed structure in Fort Lauderdale typically runs $14,000 – $45,000 installed, depending on cabinet line, countertop material, and whether we’re working inside an existing shed conversion or building out a full outdoor kitchen. Most owners call us after the first signs of failure show up: swollen cabinet bases, countertops pulling away from walls, or laminate peeling at the seams from South Florida humidity. The good news is that Tuff Shed structures are predictable to work on once you understand the framing and subfloor, and we stock the common replacement hardware and cabinet components needed to get your kitchen back to working order.

Which Tuff Shed Models This Applies To

We’ve remodeled kitchens inside Tuff Shed’s Premier Pro series, the Premier Ranch, and the two-story Premier Pro Studio models that have enough floor space for a real kitchen run. Most Fort Lauderdale owners bring us sheds with 8-foot or taller wall heights, which gives us room for standard 34.5-inch base cabinets and upper cabinets without clearance issues. Here’s the compatibility gotcha we run into constantly: Tuff Shed floor systems are built on 2×4 or 2×6 skids with OSB or plywood subfloor over floor joists. If your shed was built before 2018, the subfloor may be 5/8-inch OSB, which is fine for cabinets but can flex under a 700-pound island with stone countertops. Newer sheds with the Premier Pro upgrade have denser subfloor. Measure before you buy: pull the data plate on the interior wall near the door; it lists the build date, model name, and floor system. That tells us what we’re working with before we ever set foot inside.
On cabinets specifically, Tuff Shed does not manufacture its own cabinet line, so we are free to install KraftMaid or Wellborn cabinetry that fits the shed’s interior dimensions. For countertops, Cambria and Silestone quartz both handle Fort Lauderdale humidity without the annual sealing that natural stone demands. Penhallow Remodeling Fort Lauderdale is an independent contractor and not affiliated with Tuff Shed, but we know these structures inside out and work around the load points, stud spacing, and moisture challenges that make shed kitchens different from house kitchens.

Signs Your Tuff Shed Kitchen Remodeling Is Failing
- Cabinet doors that won’t close flush. In Fort Lauderdale’s humidity, MDF cabinet boxes can swell even inside a vented shed. We see this most often on sheds without a mini-split or dehumidifier running during the wet season. Swelling at hinge lines is the first sign the cabinet box has absorbed moisture past the point of adjustment.
- Countertop seams separating or lifting. Shed floor systems move more than slab foundations. When the skids settle even a quarter inch, laminate or butcher block seams open up. Stone tops crack less often but can pull caulk lines at the wall.
- Base cabinet kick plates rotting from the bottom edge. Any gap between the shed floor and the cabinet base lets humidity wick upward. We find rotted toe kicks on sheds where the owner skipped the floor vapor barrier or the original installer set cabinets directly on OSB without shimming.
- Drawer slides catching, sticking, or pulling out unevenly. In a humid shed, metal slides can develop surface rust within two to three years if they weren’t coated. More often, the slide screws work loose because the installer used 1/2-inch screws into 5/8-inch subfloor; they bottom out and strip. That’s a fixable failure but a recurring one.
- Sink base floor feels soft under the sink cabinet. This is the one we tell Fort Lauderdale owners to check monthly. A small supply line drip or a loose P-trap in a shed means water goes straight into OSB subfloor under the sink base, and because sheds are so well-sealed from the outside, that moisture stays trapped. By the time you feel softness, you’re usually replacing subfloor, not just a cabinet.

In Fort Lauderdale, a Tuff Shed kitchen remodel runs $14,000 – $45,000. The number moves based on three things: cabinet grade, countertop material, and whether we’re correcting subfloor damage from prior moisture. A compact L-shaped kitchen with stock Wellborn cabinets, a Cambria quartz countertop, and no structural work lands near the bottom of that range. A full outdoor kitchen with custom KraftMaid cabinets, a large island, a sink plumbing run, and new electrical for appliances reaches toward the top.
Every price we give is written, line by line, before any work starts. You’ll see the cabinet cost separated from the countertop cost, the labor hours, and the subfloor repair if needed. No verbal ballparks, no change order surprises when the sink cabinet comes out and the OSB underneath is spongy. If the scope changes because we find hidden damage, we show you what we found and write a new number before touching it. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every Tuff Shed kitchen remodel we do, all in writing; if something fails inside that year, we come back and fix it at no charge. A free return visit, no service call fee, no re-inspection fee.

DIY or Call Us?
A Tuff Shed kitchen has the same electrical and plumbing hazards as any house kitchen: supply lines under pressure, a P-trap that can leak into the subfloor, and appliance circuits that pull real amps. If you’re comfortable swapping a drawer slide or tightening a loose cabinet hinge, go ahead. Once you’re pulling base cabinets, moving a sink, or opening a wall to rerun water lines, you’re into work that causes serious damage if it’s wrong. The other thing we see too often is a homeowner installing cabinets without accounting for shed floor settlement; the install looks fine for a month, then the corner of the island drops a quarter inch and the stone countertop cracks at the seam.

No charge for the estimate.
FAQs

With proper ventilation and a mini-split or dehumidifier, a Tuff Shed kitchen remodel should last 15 to 20 years before materials show meaningful wear. In a shed that stays closed up with no climate control, expect 7 to 10 years from cabinets and countertops before humidity takes a real toll. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers workmanship for the first year, but the materials we use, like Cambria quartz and Wellborn cabinetry, carry their own lengthier warranties too.
Yes, depending on the damage. Swollen cabinet doors can sometimes be dried and re-hung, and loose drawer slides or separating countertop seams are regular repair jobs for us. If the cabinet boxes have swelled or the subfloor under the sink has rotted, partial replacement is the honest fix. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at before you spend a dollar. Call (754) 551-2922 and we’ll do a free inspection.
A compact kitchen remodel inside a Tuff Shed takes 2 to 3 weeks, from demo to final trim. If we’re adding an island, running new electrical, or repairing subfloor, expect 4 to 6 weeks. We give you a written schedule with your written quote, and we show up inside the arrival window we promised, a real window, not “sometime Tuesday.”
We stock the common hardware on our trucks: cabinet hinges, drawer slides in 14-inch and 18-inch lengths, base cabinet legs and shims, moisture barriers, and the sealants we use at countertop seams. For cabinet boxes, countertops, and fixtures, we order from KraftMaid, Wellborn, Cambria, Silestone, Kohler, and Moen depending on what your shed needs. Those materials arrive in Fort Lauderdale within 5 to 10 business days in most cases.
